EMG & NCV

An electromyogram (EMG) is a test that is used to record the electrical activity of muscles. When muscles are active, they produce an electrical current. EMGs can be used to detect abnormal electrical activity of muscle. This can occur as a symptom of many diseases and conditions such as inflammation of muscles, pinched nerves, peripheral nerve damage, disc herniation and more.

A nerve conduction velocity test (NCV) is a type of electrical test. It determines the adequacy of the conduction of a nerve impulse as it courses down your nerve. This test is used to detect signs of nerve injury. Joint Implant Surgeons of Florida often conduct a nerve conduction velocity test at the same time as an EMG to exclude or detect muscle conditions.
